Baroque Sundays at Three is Long Island’s leading music series dedicated to historically informed performance of early music. Concerts are offered free with a suggested goodwill donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors to offset expenses and further the study and performance of early music at Stony Brook University.

VIRTUOSITY à la FRANÇAISE

The brilliant young New York based early music ensemble – The Academy Players – will open our season with an astonishing display of 18th century French masterpieces, featuring music for violin, viola da gamba, and harpsichord by Marin Marais, Jean-Philippe Rameau and others. Marais’ rarely performed showstopper, La Gamme will highlight this program.

THE DELIGHTFUL BAROQUE

The Stony Brook Baroque Players will offer their annual pre-Thanksgiving concert of vocal and instrumental gems from the 17th and 18th centuries.  The cream of the crop of Stony Brook graduate students will amaze and thrill you with their dedication to expressive and virtuoso performances.   Featured composers will include Bach, Telemann, and more.

THE ECSTATIC AND THE DIVINE

The Suore Project – an exciting new group from Boston, will present passionate music of nun composers that spans eras and empires, from the 9th-century Eastern Roman Empire, to 17th century Italy to contemporary Ethiopia. Inspiring works by Rosa Giacinta Badalla, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Kassia of Byzantium, and others will ignite the heart and delight the mind.

CONCERTOS! CONCERTOS! CONCERTOS!

The Stony Brook Harpsichord Studio will join up with members of the Stony Brook Baroque Players to present an afternoon of concertos for solo and multiple string and keyboard instruments. Bach and Vivaldi are the featured composers in this memorable event. You won’t want to miss this!!

THE JOYS OF EARLY MUSIC 

The Stony Brook Baroque Players will end our season with vocal and instrumental treasures surveying the entire Baroque period from Italy, France, and Germany.  This concert will feature sacred and secular music as well as small and large ensembles – a delightful way to usher in Springtime at Stony Brook.  

All concerts in the Staller Center Recital Hall. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $10 per person.

This ensemble is only open to graduate students in the Department of Music. For special consideration, please contact  music director Arthur Haas.
