4 M$ Federal Investment for Energy Security Research Awarded to EMREL
February 2026
EMREL has been awarded $4 million in federal funding to advance energy security research through an initiative supported by Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. The research focuses on developing and testing ultra-high-temperature materials needed for next-generation nuclear power systems. Through this funding, a unique university-based facility will be established. This new facility will allow EMREL to couple ultra-high-temperature materials development with activated materials characterization capabilities. This funding is expected to attract leading researchers and external collaborators to the facility and provide students with hands-on research opportunities in advanced materials development and characterization.
