State and Local Relations
State and Government Relations
Stony Brook University is New York’s Flagship University and, through Stony Brook Medicine, is Suffolk County’s safety net provider. Across two academic campuses, four hospitals, over 200 clinical facilities, the Stony Brook Cancer Center, the Research & Development Park, and the Long Island State Veterans Home, Stony Brook impacts each corner of our region. As a State Research University with a State Hospital, Stony Brook Government Relations is a leading voice in the State Capitol on issues related to higher education, healthcare, economic development, and research and innovation.
Stony Brook Government Relations works with the Governor's Office, State Agencies, Leadership in the State Senate and State Assembly, as well as various Legislative Committees, and our local delegation to advance the mission of the University. Our advocacy is focused on capital and operating support, economic development initiatives, and legislation important to our mission.
Local Government Relations
As Long Island's largest single site-employer, Stony Brook University is a principal driver of the Long Island and regional economy. We interact closely with local elected officials and governments to support our vibrant local community.
The University works with the City of New York, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Towns and Villages across Long Island to support economic development, address community concerns, and extend opportunities to our region
