Fiscal Year 2027
State University of New York (SUNY) Program Operating Aid
Support the executive’s proposal for $54 million to maintain the SUNY tuition freeze.
Support additional
operating aid to cover any new collective bargaining agreements.
Critical Maintenance and Research Capital for the University Centers
Increase critical maintenance and emergency avoidance funding by $405 million and
increase research
capital for the university centers by $460 million. Stony Brook University carries
$1.8 billion in deferred
maintenance — the highest in SUNY.
SUNY Hospital Capital Support
Support the executive’s proposal to invest in capital funding for three SUNY hospitals,
including $50 million in
bonded capital at Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH).
Public Hospital Relief of Debt Service
Treat SUNY hospitals like SUNY academic campuses and permanently end the hospital
debt sweep. This will
save SBUH $25 million this fiscal year.
New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) Payment Sweep
Reject the executive’s proposal to allow the Division of the Budget to withhold outstanding
NYSHIP payments
from the three SUNY hospitals. This would amount to a $150 million cut to SBUH. SBUH
has a payment plan in
place with the Division of the Budget.
Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Initiatives
Restore $2.6 million and increase funding by $17.5 million for EOP.
Economic Development and Innovation
- Support the executive’s proposal to appropriate $100 million to develop the Quantum
Research and
Innovation Hub at Stony Brook. Support the executive’s proposal to appropriate $60 million for the Quantum
Technology Commercialization Hubs. - Fully fund Centers of Excellence and Centers of Advanced Technology at $1 million per center.
Stony Brook Southampton Ground Lease
Support the executive’s proposal to build housing for the Stony Brook Medicine workforce
on the Stony Brook
Southampton campus.
