Stacey Olster is the author of Reminiscence and Re-Creation in Contemporary American Fiction (Cambridge University Press),The Trash Phenomenon: Contemporary Literature, Popular Culture, and the Making of
the American Century (University of Georgia Press), and, most recently,The Cambridge Introduction to Contemporary American Fiction (Cambridge University Press), and the editor of The Cambridge Companion to John Updike (Cambridge University Press) and Don DeLillo: Mao II, Underworld, Falling Man (Continuum). Her articles on contemporary American literature and culture have appeared
in essay collections and journals such as Modern Fiction Studies, Critical Inquiry, The Review of Contemporary Fiction, Michigan Quarterly Review, Contemporary Literature, and Critique. Between 1999 and 2022, she served as a consulting editor for Critique and, since 2005, as a member of the editorial advisory board for Modern Fiction Studies. Her teaching awards include the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (Stony
Brook University), the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (State University
of New York Office of the Chancellor), a Lilly Endowment Faculty Awards Fellowship,
a Fulbright Scholar Award (Belgium), and an Enseignant Invite (Université Toulouse
Jean Jaurès). She received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and studies post-1945
American fiction, U.S. history and politics, and popular culture.
