Chelsey A. Barber is Director of English Education at Stony Brook University. She received her Ph.D. in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2025. Before joining Stony Brook, she spent fifteen years teaching English across secondary and post-secondary settings, including New York City public schools.
Her research examines how generative and predictive AI reshape writing, authorship, and identity in secondary and post-secondary contexts, with particular attention to algorithmic literacy, cyborg composing, and the civic implications of AI-mediated writing spaces. Her work has appeared in English Teaching: Practice & Critique, Phi Delta Kappan, the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, and English Journal.
