Chart of Accounts

The Chart of Accounts is the structure the university uses to classify financial transactions and support reporting. It brings together a set of defined segments that help identify the nature, purpose, funding, and organizational context of each transaction.

As Stony Brook continues its transition to the future-state ERP environment, the Chart of Accounts will provide a more consistent and standardized foundation for financial management and reporting across the institution. Its structure is designed to support operational needs while also improving visibility, governance, and reporting.

The Controller’s Office helps oversee the Chart of Accounts and the processes used to maintain it. In the future state, Chart of Accounts values and related requests will be governed through Enterprise Data Management (EDM), helping support a more structured and consistent approach to ongoing maintenance.
