Registration Support Assistants (RSA's)

Registration Support Assistants (RSA's) help on-board and pre-register incoming first-year students in the Undergraduate Colleges at Stony Brook University. Students will gain knowledge in the areas of enrollment functionality, data management, and customer service as they work to enroll first year students in classes before they arrive at Stony Brook University. RSA's also work with students at Registration Workshops throughout the summer and assist them with SBC course enrollment and finalizing their Fall 2024 class schedule. Tentative start date for training is the week of April 22, 2024. 
 
RSA RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions 
  • Pre-register first year students in their core/major classes through the SOLAR system.
  • Communicate via email with students about important enrollment deadlines, placement examinations, transfer credits, and more.
  • Answer emails from first year students to address their questions about Stony Brook and their class registration process.
  • Monitor enrollment status for students through the use of SLATE, Google Sheets, and update information appropriately.
  • Call students to follow up about the progress of their placement exams and transfer credits to ensure timely enrollment.
  • Attend all Zoom Enrollment Workshops (~4 workshops/week throughout July & August) and work in small groups with students to finish their Fall 2024 enrollment. 
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to monitor enrollment progress and receive updates as a team. 
  • Work on special assignments/projects given by Undergraduate College Advisors related to new student registration. 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, SOLAR  
  • Familiarity with course selection, graduation requirements, and the enrollment process
  • Team player & strong interpersonal skills
  • Ambition to assist new students in their transition to Stony Brook
  • Accepting of constructive feedback and a willingness to learn
  • Willingness to learn administrative side of SLATE (admissions portal)
  • Ability to work 20 hours/week between 9:00am-5:00pm May through August 
  • Potential to continue employment during the fall 2024 semester during first year student registration dates 
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing, with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must have availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:00 AM -5:00 PM once workshops begin, which will begin tentatively on July 11 through August 13. There are 2 workshops/day- both a morning and afternoon session. RSA's are expected to attend all scheduled workshops (17-18 total). Additional hours to pre-enroll students will take place Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm.

Hours Per Week: ~20 

Pay Rate: $16 hourly rate

Employment Dates: May - August 2024 with several paid training sessions beginning in April and/or May. We are also looking for students to tentatively work during the fall 2024 semester during add/drop/swap and advance registration periods.
