Laue's scholarship is part of NYWIFT’s Scholarship Fund offered to provide financial assistance to second-year women graduate film students based in the New York area. The $2,500 scholarship awards Emily financial assistance for her film projects while also providing her access to networks and professional development opportunities at NYWIFT.

"We're delighted that New York Women in Film and Television has chosen Stony Brook / Killer Films MFA thesis student Emily Laue as the recipient of its annual scholarship," said MFA in Film Associate Director Magdalene Brandeis. "Emily is a serious filmmaker whose mission of featuring strong female characters and challenging traditional ideas of femininity aligns perfectly with NYWIFT."

An actress and budding filmmaker, Emily Laue has worked in a variety of production and acting roles in Seattle, Vancouver, Los Angeles and New York on short films, features, and music videos. She was production co-coordinator on the feature Altergiest, assistant location manager on Jay-Z's Picasso Baby music video, and co-starred and assisted in producing Immigrant, which was in competition at Whistler & Calgary Film Festivals and screened at MoMA's annual "Canadian Front" series.

Laue wrote and directed the short film Void last year and is currently editing two short films she wrote and directed, A Welcomed Destruction and Side Effects May Include. She received her BFA in Theatre Acting from the University of British Columbia.
