The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is the central point of coordination and administration of research and sponsored programs. Dedicated staff in OSP serve as the University's authorized representatives responsible on behalf of SBU's  research community for the review, endorsement and submission of proposals to extramural sponsors that support research, training instructional and other activities. OSP is also responsible for the negotiation and acceptance on behalf of The Research Foundation for The SUNY and Stony Brook University of agreements awarded by federal and state agencies, foundations, corporations, and other public and private sources. Other institutional responsibilities include interpretation of sponsor rules and guidelines, issuance and monitoring of outgoing subawards for collaborative research, coordination of post-award non-accounting actions requiring either institutional or sponsor prior approval (e.g. budget revisions, no cost extensions); monitoring institutional compliance with government regulations and award requirements; and serving as the point of contact for a variety of groups, including sponsors, SBU faculty, RF Central Office and other research and/or administrative units.
The goal and philosophy of OSP is to deliver high quality customer service in an efficient and professional manner in compliance with sponsor rules and regulations and to promote and facilitate the research, education, and outreach mission of Stony Brook University.

The Office of Grants Management (OGM) provides guidance and oversight with respect to all financial transactions, accounting services, and informational reports including the fiscal requirements set forth by sponsoring agencies in full support of research objectives and expectations while meeting the compliance standard set forth by sponsor agencies.
Once an Award has been accepted, an account established and OGM assists Principal Investigators and their respective staff members to manage all aspects of sponsored awards fiscal activity.  It does so by monitoring the progression of financial activity according to sponsor terms and conditions, and providing the necessary training to PI's and their team members with respect to the use of fiscal tools and processes needed to conduct research within the sponsored agency compliance outlines.
As with all units within the Office of the Vice President for Research, the objectives and goals of OGM is to provide  high quality customer service in an efficient and professional manner while maintaining institutional compliance with all sponsor regulations and to facilitate the research, education, and outreach mission of Stony Brook University.
