Historical Note
Philip James (1890-1975) was a composer, organist, choir director, conductor, and chairman of New York University's Department of Music from 1941-1954. A biographical sketch and selected chronology are included in A Catalog of the Musical Works of Philip James (1890-1975) and Supplement One by Mrs. Helga James (New York, N.Y.: J. Finell Music Services, 1980). These publications may be consulted in the Special Collections.
