Trevor Joseph, who joined the School of Communication and Journalism in 2021, serves
as a lecturer in communication. Trevor has been teaching communication courses for
more than 15 years. Trevor also serves as an adjunct instructor of business at the
Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University.
He has been the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the National Communication Association's Michael and Suzanne Osborn Outstanding Educator Award. Trevor is known for his dynamic approach to teaching, frequently integrating new technologies and activities into his courses.
Prior to joining Stony Brook University, Trevor taught at Loyola University Maryland and several other universities and colleges. In addition to his extensive teaching experience, Trevor has also held corporate roles at Country Financial, Legacy Health Systems, and Pier 1 Imports. He has also worked in state government, managing training initiatives for the Washington Department of Corrections.
Trevor has presented at a range of conferences, including the International Communication Association, National Communication Association, Eastern Communication Association, among others. Trevor also frequently consults and provides team-building and communication training to organizations, most recently Kroger.
Trevor's research focuses on two main areas. First, he studies group dynamics in the workplace with specific emphasis on how groups adapt to change. Second, he researches how workers cope with stress and how coping strategies predict job satisfaction.
Trevor Joseph holds an MS in communication from Illinois State University, an MS in psychology from the University of Oregon, an MBA from Western New Mexico University, and BS degrees in communication studies and business administration from Western Oregon University.
