Campus Planning, Design and Construction Provides Tours of Newly-Constructed Indoor Practice Facility

At a recent Stronger Together sponsored event, the Department of Campus Planning, Design & Construction joined forces with Stony Brook University’s Athletics Department, Division of Student Affairs, Healthier U, the Faculty Student Association, Enterprise Risk Management, and the University Police to welcome students and faculty/staff back to campus.

The Open House Event, held on August 12, 2021, was created to showcase several buildings and facilities on campus that many students, faculty and staff may not yet be familiar with, while also giving numerous SBU departments the opportunity to connect and visit with those who may have been working and learning remotely since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, or those who are new to the University.

William Herrmann, Assistant Vice President of Campus Planning Design & Construction, joined by Adam McLeod, Associate Athletic Director for Facilities, Operations and Capital Planning, led several tours through LaValle Stadium and the Indoor Practice Facility. While touring, participants were able to learn about the unique construction process and the materials that were used during the ground-up project, completed in the Spring of 2020. Some highlights include:

  • 65’ dome ceiling
  • 80 yards of turf including end zones
  • 360-degree netting
  • Scoreboard
  • Drop-down net at center field allowing for multiple practice simultaneously
