Meet SIAM!
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is an international professional organization founded in 1952 that conveys useful mathematical knowledge to professionals who could implement mathematical theory for practical, industrial, or scientific use. The Stony Brook University Chapter of SIAM was founded in 2022, and we are dedicated to advancing the interests of Stony Brook students interested in Applied Mathematics & Statistics. We provide students with a variety of Applied Math-related networking, professional development, technical skills, and community-building opportunities.
Mission
The purpose of the SIAM Student Chapter is to unite students of Stony Brook University, regardless of departmental affiliation, under a common appreciation of applied mathematics; additionally, it is to provide the Stony Brook University student community with resources, information, and opportunities relating to professional development, career success, academic publishing, and conference attendance.
Events
SIAM holds a variety of exciting events throughout the academic year! Fall semester events typically include Adventures in AMS, a career panel event where students get a chance to network with industry professionals. In the Spring, we typically hold the AMS Research Day Event, where students get a chance to present their applied mathematics-related research while also learning about research done by their peers.
