Leave Your Mark on Legacy Way

The Legacy Way brick program enables Stony Brook University alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends to maintain a lifelong connection to the university by commemorating their story through purchasing an 8-by-8-inch brick with a personalized message to be installed on campus. Established in 2016, the Legacy Way paths are located adjacent to the Javits Lecture Center and are traversed by thousands of students and campus visitors yearly.

Through the Legacy Way Scholarship, the program recognizes students striving to make a lasting impact on the university. A scholarship is awarded to two accomplished students in their junior year, following them into their senior year.

What You Need To Know

  • Pavers measure 8-by-8 inches and are priced at $250, while the replicas are 3-by-3 inches and cost $65.
  • When you make a purchase, you’re also making a contribution to the Legacy Way Scholarship, which provides support to two students annually.
  • The donation amount is partially tax-deductible and will be acknowledged with a gift receipt.
  • The deadline for summer installation is June 22. We will notify you once installation is complete.
  • Are you planning a visit to campus? Please let us know at least two business days in advance so we can assist you in locating your brick on Legacy Way.

FAQ

Legacy Way is a means of commemorating your experience and association with Stony Brook University. 

Actual bricks can’t have more than 21 characters per line, with a maximum of five lines per brick. Any character found on a standard keyboard can be used. Spaces are considered a character.

Inscriptions shall not include commercial messages or company names. Discriminatory or inappropriate messages that refer to an individual’s or group’s sex, race, color, religious creed, national origin, age or physical disability shall not be permitted. All messages are subject to university approval.

Unfortunately, due to vendor limitations, we can only include replica pavers as part of a paver purchase. If you choose to combine your order, we’ll ensure that your replica undergoes a thorough inspection before shipping, and will provide you with tracking details.

For your convenience, the replica will be sent via standard mail. If you have any specific shipping requests, please don’t hesitate to contact our annual giving team at annualfund@stonybrook.edu.

Due to increased demand, there will now be two Legacy Way brick installations each year. The spring installation will take place prior to commencement, and the summer installation will occur prior to the start of the academic year.

The deadline for summer installation is June 22. We will notify you once installation is complete.

If you miss the June 22 deadline, we will install your paver in the spring. The waiting period is necessary to accommodate the various steps involved in ordering, preparing, shipping, inspecting and installing the bricks.
