Stony Brook University employees are paid every two weeks on Wednesday.
All New York State employees are paid on a two-week lag payroll. That means that you are paid for a two-week pay period, beginning on a Thursday through the second Wednesday, two weeks after the conclusion of that pay period.
Most full-time faculty at Stony Brook are hired on 10-month contracts.
Most full-time faculty at Stony Brook are hired at the start of the fall term.
These faculty will be paid throughout the entire calendar year on a 26-pay (CAL) basis. In other words, you will get 26 paychecks over the course of the 52-week year; one paycheck every two weeks.
For faculty on this schedule, payroll always begins September 1, regardless of the day of the week that date falls on.
That first paycheck will include pay earned from September 1 to September 9. The first paycheck for the full two-week period (September 10 - 23) will be issued October 7.
Some full-time faculty are hired at the start of the spring term.
After the end of the spring term, these faculty will be moved to the same pay schedule as fall hires.
Payroll will begin again for the fall on September 1. However, because of the two-week lag mentioned above, the first paycheck for the first pay period will be issued on September 22, 2027.
After this transition, faculty hired in the spring will be paid every two weeks throughout the year for as long as they continue to be employed at Stony Brook.
