Interests: Political Economy, Economic Development, and Environmental Sociology

Bio:
Nayla received her BA in English from UCLA, and MA in Sociology from CSU Northridge.
Her research interests are at the intersection of political economy, economic development,
and environmental sociology. She is currently conducting a cross-national, longitudinal
study that explores if import-export relations of forestry commodities challenge long-standing
environmental sociological theory. Nayla has taught Sociological Theory and Environmental
Sociology.
Awards:
Nayla was awarded the 2021 US Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to study Indonesian. She has also been awarded academic achievement scholarships at the master’s level, and the 2021 Summer Sociology Graduate Student Research Award from Stony Brook University.
