Best Historical Materials Award for works published in 2025!

We are thrilled to congratulate Stony Brook Sociology PhD student Charles Fung on this wonderful achievement! Charles’s book, A New Documentary History of Hong Kong, 1945–1997, co-edited with historians of Hong Kong, has received the Best Historical Materials Award for works published in 2025. The award is presented by the Best Historical Materials Committee of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association. This is an exciting and well-deserved recognition of Charles’s scholarship and his contribution to the study and preservation of Hong Kong’s modern history. We are incredibly proud to celebrate this accomplishment with him. Please join us in congratulating Charles! 👏📚

Congrats to Professor Nick Wilson!

Please join us in congratulating Nick Wilson, Associate Professor of Sociology, History affiliate faculty member, and co convener of the Initiative for the Historical Social Sciences, on receiving the Barrington Moore Book Award from the American Sociological Association! The award recognizes the best book in comparative and historical sociology published over the past two years, as selected by the ASA's Historical and Comparative Section. Nick was honored for his edited volume, After Positivism: New Approaches to Comparison in Historical Sociology (Columbia University Press). This prestigious recognition highlights the impact of interdisciplinary scholarship and innovative approaches to historical sociology.
