We are excited to share that Professor Carrie Shandra has officially been promoted to Full Professor! Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved promotion and recognition of her outstanding scholarship, teaching, and service!!

Alex is a senior and recipient of the URECA REACT Spring Research Award, a $2,500 grant supporting research on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks. After completing a semester abroad at Sciences Po, he brings a comparative, cross-national perspective to his honors thesis on ESG frameworks across countries, which he will present in April 2026. His interests focus on the intersection of sociology and economics using both qualitative and quantitative methods.

Congratulations to our Ph.D. student, Andy Collins! He has received an acceptance from Sociology Compass for his outstanding, sole-authored manuscript, “Fractured or Reconfigured? A Review of the Debate on U.S. Corporate Elite Unity.” Andy’s manuscript reviews, synthesizes, and critiques the competing perspectives on continued corporate dominance in the U.S. and offers insightful suggestions for future research.

Associate Professor, Rebekah Burroway, was recently interviewed by HuffPost for the article “Gen Z Women Are Less Likely to Put on Makeup Every Day — And Guess Who Has an Issue With That?” In the piece, Burroway discusses shifting beauty norms among Gen Z women, noting that younger generations are rethinking traditional beauty practices and increasingly prioritizing skincare and a more natural aesthetic. Huge congrats to Hao Lin for receiving the Stony Brook Foundation Board of Trustees Dissertation Completion Endowed Fellowship! This prestigious award from the Graduate School will help Hao finish her dissertation.
