Biography:
Prof. Jacob Pettine received his B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2013. He then moved one building over to receive his Ph.D. in Physics in 2020 as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow in JILA, where he studied ultrafast charge dynamics and photoemission from nanoscale plasmonic metals. As a Director’s Postdoctoral Fellow within the Center for Integrated Nanomaterials at Los Alamos National Laboratory, he used optical and terahertz spectroscopies to study quantum materials and the interfaces between two-dimensional systems and metamaterials. Recently, he worked on expanding these ideas at MIT to investigate the exotic optical and electronic behaviors of nanostructured quantum ‘meta-matter’.
Outside of the lab, he and his wife enjoy hiking, birding, and exploring the state and national parks with their two dogs, Mila and Hemingway.
