A novel, non-opioid pain drug candidate originating from research at the State University of New York at Stony Brook has reached a significant milestone, as Artelo Biosciences announced on March 27 that it has secured $11 million in private investment to advance product development and accelerate this innovative treatment approach toward FDA approval.

Drug Designed to Treat Neuropathy Advances in Clinical Trials
A non-opioid investigational drug, developed by Artelo Biosciences, with promising pre-clinical results in treating neuropathic pain has passed an important hurdle after the study’s safety review committee (SRC) reviewed the data from initial volunteers and recommended to progress into the next dose level in a first-in-human clinical trial.
The compound was discovered and initially developed by Stony Brook University’s Iwao Ojima, PhD, and Martin Kaczocha, PhD.

Dr. Devinder Mahajan Receives SUNY TAF Class of 2024 Award
Dr. Mahajan, professor of materials science and chemical engineering and director of the Institute of Gas Innovation and Technology (I-GIT), and his research team at Stony Brook University developed a single system for storage and release of blended hydrogen and methane that operates under near ambient temperature and pressure conditions. This system is able to overcome the significant challenges related to efficient storage and on-demand release of hydrogen.

New Drug to Control Pain Related to Cancer Treatment Originally Developed at Stony Brook Gets FDA Clearance
Six years ago Stony Brook University through the Research Foundation for the State University of New York licensed a promising technology to Artelo Biosciences that identified Fatty Acid Binding Proteins (FABPs) as drug targets of the body’s endocannabinoid system for a potentially promising way to treat pain, inflammation and cancer. Now the first one of these compounds has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for human clinical trials.

Septic Nitrogen Sensor Successfully Completes Environmental Performance Testing
An innovative sensor technology to provide real-time information on the amount of nitrogen in wastewater has been developed as part of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) research challenge.
