UP Program FAQs

You may submit a new official score 30 days prior to the start of the program, however, there may not be space in appropriate credit courses for you to enroll in.

No. Once you are admitted to the UP program, you must complete the entire sequence.

No. Your IEC advisor will assist you in changing course(s) if you are having difficulty with the material but you cannot switch to  another IEC program. 

Each semester there will be a pre-approved selection of undergraduate courses for UP students. You will be enrolled by the IEC into an appropriate freshman year course that meets the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC) requirements. 

You will be enrolled by the IEC advisor in pre-approved courses. You may be able to switch courses during the add/drop period during the first week of the semester, depending on course availability.

UP 1: 

 - IEC 103;  B or better

- UP course; C or better (2.0 GPA)

UP 2: 

 - IEC 104;  B or better

- UP courses; C or better or 2.0 GPA combined per semester. You must earn a letter grade for each of the courses - Pass or No-Credit (P/NC) options are not acceptable.

If your grades do not meet the requirements at the end of the semester, you will have one chance to repeat UP 1 or UP 2 in the consecutive semester.
