Mission

Use Academic-Industry platform to accelerate deployment of advanced energy technologies and infrastructure for gas to provide community residents and businesses with value-added services accomplished through innovative energy research, analysis, education.

Governace

The institute is governed by a set of by-laws to ensure academic freedom and integrity while ensuring that industry needs are met.  The by-laws would be enforced through an agreement that each institute member signs.  We follow the National Science Foundation (NSF) Agreement model that the agency uses for well-tested Industry/ University Cooperative Research Centers (I/UCRCs) that have multiple industry members. The Agreement covers topics such as publications, intellectual property issues and other issues that usually arise in public-private partnerships.

The Advisory Board meets quarterly to review any proposed changes to the by-laws, membership agreement, institute operational issues and progress on ongoing projects.

Organizational Structure

The institute is managed by a dedicated staff through the AERTC at Stony Brook University. The initiative is operated under the supervision of an Institute Advisory Board (IAB) representing a broad spectrum of industry, government and academic institutions. The IAB provides input to the operation of the institute and project allocation to ensure relevance to the institute’s mission. I-GIT is managed by the institute director who in turn is aided by expert technical leads, who are affiliated faculty drawn from various departments across the campus or researchers from member companies or strategic partner institutions, who tackle sponsored projects for advanced solutions.

I-GIT Membership

The institute began its operation in July 2017.  For a conversation on how to join as a stakeholder, contact:
