Inclement Weather Update – Tuesday, January 27, 2026
Dear Campus Community,
In consideration of the ongoing regional snow removal efforts, all classes (online and in-person) and events scheduled to be held prior to 11:00 am tomorrow, Tuesday January 27, 2026 are canceled. All classes and events scheduled to begin at or after 11:00 a.m tomorrow will be held as scheduled.
This applies to Stony Brook main campus, Southampton and Manhattan and includes the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, Social Welfare, and Dental.
Students with clinical obligations should refer to their school or program policy or contact their clinical coordinators with any questions or concerns.
While in-person events before 11:00 a.m are canceled, where practicable, academic departments may convert faculty and staff meetings and other events that do not require student participation to virtual format (i.e. Zoom or Teams). Meetings and events that were already designed to be entirely remote may proceed in virtual format at the discretion of event and meeting hosts. Classes are not to be converted to a virtual format.
In the event of multi-hour classes that start before 11:00 a.m. and end after 11:00 a.m., the class may start at 11 a.m. and end at its regularly scheduled time. Instructors should be in touch with their students in these cases to confirm the class meeting start time.
Please note that only the Governor of New York State can close state offices, agencies, and campuses. When offices are open, employees are expected to report to work. During emergencies non-essential employees may request supervisory approval to charge their accruals when offices are open.
University offices will open on Tuesday, January 27 at their regularly scheduled time. Essential employees must report to campus in accordance with their normal schedules. Non-essential employees may either report to campus at their normally scheduled time or may request to use accrued time off from the start of their scheduled work day until 11:00 a.m. Non-essential employees for whom Tuesday is a normally scheduled remote work day may work from home.
University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home will remain open and operating on regular schedules. Employees in these areas are designated essential and must report as scheduled. This also applies to employees designated as essential in certain areas of west campus that deliver healthcare and related services.
Ongoing assessments of weather and road conditions will be made throughout the day. Please continue to monitor your Stony Brook University email and the University website in the event further updates become necessary.
