URECA Celebration: the annual SB campus-wide undergraduate research symposium

Celebration2013 What is the Celebration?

URECA's  Celebration of Undergraduate Research & Creativity is an annual event organized by the URECA Program that showcases undergraduate research and is  open to all SBU undergraduates conducting faculty-mentored research and creative projects. As the only university-wide research symposium, this event provides a way for faculty and students to see what's going on in their own and other departments. The success of URECA's Research Celebration relies on the efforts of faculty who provide time, resources and encouragement to participate. Students who have done research off campus (e.g. REU or other summer programs) may also present these projects at URECA.

A central part of the Celebration is a large all-day  poster session where students present their work to faculty, each other and visitors. Several Departments/Programs (e.g. English, History, and Psychology, and the Writing & Rhetoric Program) annually hold concurrent symposia featuring oral presentations; the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences holds a senior design conference featuring talks from selected teams in each of the engineering departments. URECA also sponsors an undergraduate art exhibition at the Zuccaire Gallery.

During the Celebration event, the Student Activities Center is filled with  student poster presentations, displays, demonstrations. All are welcome to attend!

How do I get involved?

We encourage you to participate in this event! You'll have a chance to share your work with other members of the university community, and gain important presentation experience.

The student participation/registration form (online) can be accessed >>here .

Are there prizes?

We encourage all students involved in mentored research to participate. The Celebration Event is not judged; some departments choose to sponsor departmental prizes for undergraduate poster and/or oral presentations. Please contact Karen Kernan if your department is interested in sponsoring a competition. If you have questions about the Celebration, please contact Karen Kernan @ 632-7114 or via email.
