Getting Involved

There are plenty of ways to get involved on campus, whether it's through joining a club, volunteering, or getting a job in one of the many departments.

EMPLOYMENT

There are many employment and Internship opportunities that you can find through the Career Center. By visiting the Career Center, you can set yourself up for mock interviews, jobs for post-graduation, and set up internships throughout your academic career at Stony Brook. The Career Center also offers specific opportunities for veterans. For more information, you may visit  Career Center's webpage.

Be sure to keep an eye out for any one of the job fairs that are offered during campus life time (usually located in the Student Activities Center).

You can look for available on-campus and off-campus jobs and internships through   Handshake by logging on with your Stony Brook University email.

The Office of Veterans Affairs at Stony Brook has also been working with North Shore-LIJ to promote the hiring of new veterans. For more information about possible employment, please visit   their website. The point of contact for hiring veterans there is Andrew S. Roberts at 516-562-3235.

This program is available to any student receiving VA education benefits who is attending school three-quarter time or more. An individual working under this program may work at the school veterans' office, VA Regional Office, VA Medical Facilities, or at approved State employment offices. Work-study students are paid at either the state or Federal minimum wage, which ever is greater.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Stony Brook offers a variety of  clubs and organizations on campus. With so many interesting options, you're bound to find a club that meets your interests while connecting with new people.  Stony Brook also offers   VESO, the Veteran Student Organization, a chapter of SVA. This club was founded in 2002 and ran strong until recently.  VESO is currently active and hosting events on campus with the intent to build a stronger community base here at Stony Brook.  All persons interested in joining or who would like more information about the club may contact the Veterans Affairs office at (631) 632-4143 or visit our   Facebook page
