Description
Open Rank Search: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Composition
The Department of Music at Stony Brook University invites applications for a full-time appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Full Professor of Composition to begin August 30, 2027.
We are searching for a composer who is actively creating work of high artistic caliber and whose recognition nationally or internationally is appropriate to their professional stage and potential academic rank. The successful candidate, regardless of rank, must also demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and the ability to take part collegially and effectively in departmental and university service.
In addition to teaching composition lessons and seminars, composers at Stony Brook teach courses in analysis and music theory in Western classical music at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate should therefore demonstrate interest in teaching music theory and analysis. Our composition faculty represents a variety of aesthetics, and some composers also contribute to areas such as computer music, performance, and improvisation.
Applicants must hold a DMA or PhD in Composition or demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
