Previous Survey Efforts at Stony Brook

Be Heard builds upon a foundation of prior institution-wide feedback initiatives:

2018 – Diversity Climate Survey (Campus & Hospital-Wide)

Stony Brook University participated in a Diversity Climate Survey using baseline data regarding the work environment for our campuses, hospitals, and the Long Island State Veterans Home. This confidential and anonymous survey was administered by Campus Climate Surveys, LLC, a subsidiary of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The instrument was selected by SBU’s Diversity Plan Assessment Committee in consultation with the Diversity Plan Human Resources Committee and the Diversity Plan Faculty Committee. Information from the survey results allowed the University to identify strengths as well as areas for improvement and enhancement.

Participation in the survey was voluntary, and respondents could choose not to answer any or all questions. Feedback and input shared helped Stony Brook ensure all members of the community had, and continue to have, the opportunity to thrive in a welcoming, supportive, respectful, and safe environment.

2023 – Hospital Engagement & Culture of Safety Survey (Press Ganey Partnership)

Stony Brook University Hospital partnered with Press Ganey to administer an Engagement and Culture of Safety Survey, which included specific nurse excellence questions. Press Ganey assisted the Hospital in gathering data to support its mission of providing excellence in health care. The survey incorporated benchmark information from national, academic, and regional healthcare sources as it reflected on patient-facing/clinical and support staff, including academic medical schools. In September 2025, the Hospital will reassess its findings through another engagement and culture of safety survey.

2025 – Be Heard Launch
