Stony Brook University partnered with ModernThink (MT) to conduct its first university-wide Employee Engagement Survey, known as Be Heard. ModernThink is a nationally recognized organization specializing in higher education
workplace surveys and benchmarking. Assessment of results will include comparisons
across Carnegie Classification, Geographic Region, Enrollment Size, and nationally recognized Great Colleges to Work For institutions.
The purpose of the Be Heard survey is to provide a confidential, structured method for understanding the employee experience across our campuses; improve faculty/staff
experience; drive better performance, and improve strategies for recruitment and retention.
The survey is designed to inform improvements in areas such as:
- Collaboration and communication
- Confidence in senior leadership
- Inclusion, belonging, and community
- Faculty and staff well-being
- Job satisfaction and supervisory effectiveness
- Mission alignment and institutional pride
- Performance management and professional development
Insights gathered through Be Heard will help shape future strategies that strengthen
engagement, retention, and workplace culture.
