She is also the Director of the VocalizED Identity Crafting and Exploration (VOICE) research lab, housed in the English Department at Stony Brook University. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from Drexel University. Her research also examines the influence of utilizing digital tools and platforms to amplify Black immigrants’ narratives. As a design-based researcher, Neisha Terry’s research bears implications for both theory and practice. Terry’s work adds to our understanding of how Black immigrant youth navigate the process of being and becoming in their new country. Her work also extends critical pedagogical practices for working with immigrant and multicultural youth, especially in English Language Arts (ELA) literacy learning spaces. She teaches methods courses in the English Education program. She also teaches courses on Black American and diasporic literature, with an emphasis on providing opportunities for her students to utilize various forms of new media to examine and develop their responses to literature.
