 Thomas Thomas Aird PhotoAird earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Stony Brook University in 1985.  He also holds a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University and a Professional Diploma in Education Administration from St. John’s University, Jamaica, New York.  He is both permanently certified as a 7-12 Social Studies and N-6 Elementary Teacher.  In addition, he is certified in Educational Administration at both the Building and District levels.

He has taught social studies in the Plainview Old Bethpage School District, Three Village Central School District, and in the Herricks Union Free School District.  It was at Herricks, however, that he spent 29 of his 33 years in education.  He most recently retired from Herricks as the Assistant Principal of the middle school.  Throughout his teaching career, he has worked towards expanding social studies and middle school level education.

In the middle school, he helped create teaming and developed an interdisciplinary program to meet the individual needs of students.  He also created an extensive Project Based Learning curriculum that was implemented across grade levels and disciplines.  As Assistant Principal, he focused on fostering the Social and Emotional Learning for all students in the building.
