PhD: Financial Support
The Department of Civil Engineering is dedicated to providing admitted PhD students with comprehensive funding packages that enable them to focus on academic and research excellence in a supportive environment. Funding is typically offered through research project assistantships (RPAs), teaching assistantships (TAs), graduate assistantships (GAs), or competitive fellowships.
PhD applicants are automatically considered for these funding opportunities during the admission review process—no separate application for funding is required. Take the next step in advancing your career in civil engineering.
Funding and Benefits for Assistantships
For the current academic year, the funding package for full-time PhD students with assistantships includes the following:
- Stipend:
- 12-month position: Minimum annual salary of $32,191
- 9-month position: Minimum salary of $26,000

- Health Insurance: Health insurance coverage is provided.
Funding and benefits are provided by the faculty members who serve as students’ academic advisors. PhD applicants are encouraged to identify a prospective academic advisor by contacting faculty members directly to discuss research interests and academic goals. Faculty actively recruiting new students will respond to inquiries when there is strong alignment.
Once prospective students identify potential advisors who encourage them to apply, they should submit their application through the applicant portal.
