PhD: Before you Apply

Basic Requirements for Admission:

• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or a related field (e.g., another engineering discipline, physical sciences, or mathematics).
• A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0-point scale in both:
  • Your overall cumulative GPA
  • Math, science, and engineering coursework
• A prospective PhD advisor who is open to mentoring you in your area of study 

We strongly recommend identifying a prospective PhD advisor before applying to our program. To start this process, review the profiles of our faculty. When reaching out to faculty, please include your detailed CV/resume, photocopies of transcripts, and sample publications, if available. Faculty members actively recruiting new students will respond to your inquiry if they consider you a good fit for their research group.
