Department of Economics, College of Arts and Sciences
Fedor Iskhakov, PhD, studies how people and firms make choices over time — and how economists can build models that capture those decisions and test them against real-world data. An applied microeconometrician and computational economist, Iskhakov’s research centers on the structural estimation of dynamic models of individual and strategic choice, with applications in labor and public economics, household finance, durable goods markets, industrial organization and dynamic games.
Iskhakov joined Stony Brook University in 2026 as a professor in the Department of Economics after serving as a professor of economics at The Australian National University. From 2019 to 2023, he held an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship. He earned his PhD in economics from the University of Oslo in 2009, where his doctoral thesis received His Majesty the King of Norway’s gold medal for the best research in social sciences among young researchers in Norway.
His scholarship has appeared in leading economics journals, including Econometrica, the Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Econometrics, The Econometrics Journal, International Economic Review, Quantitative Economics and Management Science. Beyond his research, Iskhakov is a core organizer of the Econometric Society Summer School in Dynamic Structural Econometrics and its associated conference, held annually in locations worldwide. He also serves on the Advisory Council of the Society for Computational Economics and the Econometric Society Regional Standing Committee for Australasia.
