Carolyn Milana, MD

Knapp Endowed Physician in Chief, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital
Department of Pediatrics

For Carolyn Milana, MD, caring for children has meant spending much of her career close to home. A Long Island native, she has devoted the majority of her career to making a difference in the lives of young patients in the Stony Brook Children’s community, providing medical care to hospitalized children from birth through age 21.

Milana earned her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1997 and completed her pediatrics residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center in 2000. She is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine, with a passion for providing evidence-based, high-quality care to hospitalized children.

Her work also extends beyond the bedside. Milana has contributed to pediatric quality-improvement efforts aimed at strengthening outcomes and services for children, and has published research related to this work. Today, she serves as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Physician-in-Chief of Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, where she helps guide both pediatric care and the department’s broader clinical mission. She is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics.

Milana is the Knapp Endowed Physician in Chief of Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and the chair and clinical associate professor of the Department of Pediatrics. Across her clinical and leadership roles, Milana’s focus remains on delivering high-quality care and helping shape the future of pediatric healthcare for the community.
