Research Foundation Graduate Students

The Benefits unit assists faculty, staff, and graduate students in understanding their benefit programs. We work closely with the Department of Civil Service, Division of Employee Benefits, SUNY and Research Foundation Central Offices, and the various carriers to ensure that the programs work smoothly and employees receive their maximum entitlement.

The Benefits unit arranges seminars and conducts workshops and outreach programs. The Benefit's staff advises supervisors and department heads and counsel?s employees, providing them with information about benefits programs offered by Stony Brook through the State, Research Foundation, and GSEU. These initiatives include health insurance; life insurance, state supported tuition assistance programs, retirement, tax-deferred programs, long-term disability plans; and short-term disability, workers compensation, and the Family and Medical Leave Act for Research Foundation.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is pleased to offer eligible Research Project Assistants and Project Instructional Assistants a comprehensive health insurance plan. Under the plan, the Research Foundation pays 90% of the cost of individual coverage and 75% of the additional premium cost for dependents.
