About the Program
Deakin University has a passion for International education and the Australian Studies Summer School offers the chance to satisfy intellectual and cultural curiosity about one of the world’s most diverse cultures. Learning outcomes include cultural orientation skills; history, culture, and analyses. Additionally, this program will entertain and heighten your understanding of Australia today. The program includes cultural excursions in Melbourne and a Learn to Surf excursion on the world famous Great Ocean Road.
Location Melbourne, Australia Program Type Partner University Program Program Term Winter Program Dates Program Dates: January 4 to January 19, 2018 (*Students will be leaving the program early in order to return in time for their Spring semester). Please note that students must plan their flights to arrive in time for the January 4th mandatory orientation event.
Course of Study
*Students receive 4 credits, and a DEC J.
For students following the Stony Brook Curriculum(SBC) this programs fulfills GLO, SBS and EXP+.
*Students accepted to participate through the SBU program will leave the program one week early in order to be back in time for the start of the Spring 2017 semester. Students are still responsible for course information of the last week, completing and submitting assignments through the Deakin student online account.

Credits earned on this program do not calculate toward a student's GPA at Stony Brook University. Non-SBU students are advised to check their home university policy on grade and credit transfer.

Program Fee $3,200: Includes housing, books, welcome dinner, airport transfer to campus, excursions in Melbourne, learn to surf excursion (Fee subject to change) Administrative Fee $200 (non-refundable) International Health Insurance Included in the Program Fee Other Fees $1,000 approximately: meals, personal expenses Travel Costs $2,700 approximately for airfare and visa. Students may be required to travel together to the study abroad site. The study abroad advisor will provide details to participants once available. Costs are estimates for planning purposes of the student and are subject to change at any point.
