Go Far Beyond!

International Academic Programs invites you to explore the opportunities for you to Study Abroad. We offer many unique programs that give students exposure to language, experiential learning, internships and much more. We encourage students to come meet with an International Program Coordinator to learn more about our diverse portfolio of programs.

Program Types Defined:

Exchange Programs: Students apply through Stony Brook University as an exchange student directly at one of SBU’s partner universities for a semester or an academic year.  Students receive transfer credits and language proficiency may be required.

Faculty-Led Programs: A Stony Brook University faculty member instructs a group of students at an overseas location. These programs are typically during the winter and summer terms. Programs at the Turkana Basin Institute in Kenya and Centre ValBio in Madagascar are faculty-led and are also available during the semester. Students enroll in SBU classes (count towards GPA for SBU students) and language proficiency is not required.

International Summer School: Students apply through Stony Brook University to enroll in courses offered at an international summer school offered by one of SBU’s partner universities. Students receive transfer credits and language proficiency may be required.

Stony Brook University is an IIE Generation Study Abroad Partner! We have pledged to increase the number of students studying abroad by providing deeper access and support. This commitment partnership also offers students access to IIE Study Abroad Travel Grants which can be found on our scholarships page.
