URECA is here to support you at all stages of your research journey. We are available to meet with you one-on-one to discuss your research goals and how to move forward.

What is Undergraduate Research?

A wide variety of experiences working with faculty mentors on a research project or creative or scholarly work exist for students  in all disciplines across Stony Brook University and Stony Brook University Hospital. Undergraduate students perform research (timing) during the academic year (fall/spring) as well as the summers.

Explore Your Interests

Reflect on what inspires you. What about your major or future career excites you? Use the self-reflection questions and options to explore your interests. 

What are you curious about (may or may not be related to your major)? Is there a topic or cause you are passionate about?

What classes have you taken that you enjoyed? Is there a course you are looking forward to? 

Speak to your faculty about their research.

What kind of career will you pursue? How can research complement this goal? 

 Are there any news stories about SBU research that excite you? 

Have you attended the URECA Celebration of Undergraduate Research? Speak to a presenter about their work to learn more. Use the schedule of research events to see more opportunities to attend.
