Former SBU Students
Former Stony Brook students who are seeking to re-enroll (re-matriculation) must contact the Registrar's Office at (631) 632-6175 or registrar_office@stonybrook.edu.
To return to Stony Brook University, former undergraduate students pursue re-matriculation when they were previously enrolled in classes and took a leave of absence through the Office of the Registrar. This includes undergraduate students who have not been enrolled at Stony Brook for two consecutive fall/spring semesters and have not earned any Stony Brook credits, or incoming undergraduate students who took a leave of absence in their first semester after the Add/Drop deadline.
Upon returning to Stony Brook University, students will need to meet with an advisor to discuss requirements needed to complete their degree. You are also advised to contact Transfer Student Advising at (631) 632-7082 or UPTRadvising@stonybrook.edu to discuss coursework needed for completion of your degree requirements. Former Stony Brook students do not submit a new application for admission to the University; if you submit a new application, the application fee cannot be returned to you.
Students who withdrew from the University prior to registering for courses must submit a new application for admission and be reevaluated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Students who leave the University and earn a bachelor’s degree elsewhere and are seeking admission as a second bachelor’s degree candidate, must re-apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Any admitted student, whether first-year or transfer, who withdraws and cancels their enrollment prior to the semester start via the SOLAR System must re-apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions if they intend to return to the University. Admission will be based on availability and students are not guaranteed acceptance for a future semester.
State University of New York (SUNY) policy prohibits Stony Brook University admission applications from inquiring into an applicant’s prior criminal history. After acceptance, the College shall inquire if the student previously has been convicted of a felony if such individual seeks campus housing or participation in clinical or field experiences, internships (where a criminal history background check is required) or study abroad programs. The information required to be disclosed under SUNY policy regarding such felony convictions shall be reviewed by a standing campus committee consistent with the legal standards articulated in New York State Corrections Law, and other applicable law.
Students who have previously been convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements for certain professions. Students who have concerns about such matters are advised to contact the dean's office of their intended academic program.
