Mission Statement

Student Media Services, a unit within the Department of Student Community Development and the Office of Student Life, is dedicated to fostering a vibrant, ethical, and inclusive media culture at Stony Brook University. We provide resources, mentorship, and professional development to empower student media organizations in producing high-quality content that informs, engages, and reflects the diverse voices of our campus and surrounding communities.

 

Our mission is to:

• Educate the campus community on the power and responsibility of media.
• Support student media groups in adhering to CAS standards and the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics.
• Cultivate leadership, creativity, and accountability through advising and hands-on experience.
• Champion excellence by coordinating award-winning programs, publications, and public service initiatives.
• Uphold our reputation as a premier university-based media program, aligned with the standards of AAU institutions.

 

Through these efforts, we aim to inspire the next generation of media professionals and storytellers who will shape the future of communication with integrity and impact.
