Ali Pharaa is a PhD Candidate at Stony Brook University focusing on beauty and ethics from a phenomenological perspective. He also draws on diverse cultural and religious frameworks, having completed a scholarship-funded Certificate in Religion and Society in Shintoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Christianity in Contemporary Japan, Chiba University, Japan (January, 2020) as well as training in classical Arabic texts in the Islamic Golden Age at Cairo University, Egypt (2019).
His work spans classical to modern and postmodern work by revisiting concepts from a phenomenological lens, with particular attention given to the workings of the inner faculties (reflection, imagination, memory, etc.) and emotional states in encountering beauty, sublimity, and ethical reasoning.
