Class Enrollment

Enrollment Appointments

Please review your enrollment appointment in SOLAR prior to registration.

 

Holds

Students should review and resolve any holds on their account that may prevent enrollment.

Holds can be viewed on the left-hand side menu in SOLAR

 

Full-Time Enrollment Requirements

Please refer to the Graduate Catalog for full-time enrollment credit requirements.

 

Master’s Students

Only students who have completed the required form and officially identified themselves as pursuing the Master’s Thesis option are eligible to enroll in ESM 599.

 

Ph.D. Students

Teaching Assistant (TA) assignments will be distributed at the beginning of the corresponding semester. Students should enroll in all other required coursework as soon as enrollment becomes available.

 

Class Permissions

Please utilize the UG/Graduate Class Permission Form

 Important Notes:

  • Permission requests are only available for ESG/ESM/CME courses
  • Requests may only be submitted after your enrollment appointment has opened

 

Academic Deadlines

Please review the Graduate School Academic Calendar for important dates and deadlines, including:

  • Add/Drop deadlines
  • Tuition liability deadlines
  • Graduation deadlines

 

VIS Good Standing Letters

Requests for VIS Good Standing Letters should be submitted via email to:
ESMandCME_GradInfo@stonybrook.edu

Important Information:

  • Requests must be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the requested need-by date
  • Students must be fully enrolled during all eligible semesters

Email submissions must include:

  • Student full name
  • SBU ID number
  • Travel dates
  • Destination city/country
  • Current salary rate

Failure to submit requests in advance may require students to instead utilize the Enrollment Verification Form without a corresponding departmental letter.

 

Course Exceptions

Departmental Policy

Only 6 credits outside of a student’s primary program may count toward coursework requirements for graduation.

 

Important Deadline Policy

Course exceptions not officially approved and on file prior to the start of the semester will not be considered toward degree requirements.

For courses completed in previous semesters, the department is continuing to review individual student records. Students will be contacted regarding any approved course exceptions already on file.

Applying for Graduation

Master’s Students

Apply for graduation through SOLAR.

 

Ph.D. Students

Apply for graduation through the Graduate School website.

Students are responsible for meeting the degree requirements outlined in the Graduate Catalog associated with their program entry term.

 

Grade Changes

Students anticipating a grade change after applying for graduation must notify:
ESMandCME_GradInfo@stonybrook.edu

Failure to communicate anticipated grade changes prior to degree conferral may result in the degree being awarded before the change is processed. Grade changes cannot be modified after a degree has been awarded.
