Graduate Student Series

The LACS Graduate Student Series is a student-led initiative that supports the development of interdisciplinary programming organized by graduate students.

Each year, LACS provides funding for a graduate student (or group of students) to design and lead a series of events focused on Latin America, the Caribbean, and their diasporas. These events may include lectures, panels, workshops, performances, screenings, or other experimental formats.

About the Initiative

The Graduate Student Series is designed to:

  • Support graduate student research and intellectual exchange
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration across departments
  • Create space for innovative and public-facing programming
  • Expand engagement beyond traditional academic formats

Selected proposals receive funding (up to $1,500) to organize a series of events over the course of a semester.

Call for Proposals

LACS invites graduate students to submit proposals for a student-led series.

Proposals may take different forms, including:

  • A single large event with multiple participants
  • A series of 2–3 smaller events across the semester
  • Hybrid or in-person programming

We particularly encourage proposals that:

  • Move beyond traditional academic panels
  • Include community engagement or public-facing components
  • Incorporate creative, experimental, or interdisciplinary approaches

Collaborative proposals across departments are strongly encouraged.

Application Requirements

  • Title and theme of the proposed series
  • Short description or rationale
  • List of proposed speakers/participants (with links if available)
  • Proposed timeline (dates or timeframe)
