HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Each year, Stony Brook University celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15), with the campus dedicating the month of October to a wide range of events and initiatives that highlight the histories, cultures, and contributions of Latino communities.

The Hispanic Heritage Month Committee (HHM)—composed of students, faculty, and staff—has led this campus-wide celebration for over three decades. Programming includes lectures, performances, workshops, exhibitions, and community events organized across departments and student organizations, creating opportunities for broad participation and collaboration.

Hispanic Heritage Month at Stony Brook is a collective effort. Members of the university community are encouraged to contribute by organizing events and engaging with the month’s programming, reinforcing its role as a dynamic, campus-wide initiative.

As part of this tradition, HHM also presents annual awards and scholarships recognizing students, faculty, and staff whose work has made a meaningful impact on Latino communities at Stony Brook and beyond.
