Undergraduate Scholarship for Academic Achievement and Leadership (On Campus)

Korean Studies minors are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Awards are given to students who demonstrate academic excellence in Korean Studies and exhibit leadership within the campus community. Each recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship.

Graduate Scholarships (On Campus)

This scholarship supports graduate students conducting research on Korea-related topics across all disciplines at Stony Brook University. Recipients receive a $3,000 annual scholarship, renewable upon review. Awardees are also invited to present their research at the Center's Graduate Research Workshop.

Korean Humanism Scholarships (On Campus)

These scholarships provide full-tuition support for graduate students enrolled in the Korean Humanism track.

Korean Language Teacher Education Program Scholarship (On Campus)

The Center for Korean Studies awards scholarships each year to students enrolled in the Korean Language Teacher Education Program. Each recipient receives $2,000~$5,000 annual scholarships.

Critical Language Scholarship (CLS)  

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages, including Korean. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains. More on the CLS program

Boren Scholarship 

Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. More on the Boren scholarship

Benjamin Gilman Scholarship 

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. The Institute of International Education has administered the program since its inception in 2001. More on the Gilman scholarship

Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) Scholarship 

The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) invests in promising students with financial need who wish to study abroad. Potential applicants who meet our eligibility requirements may participate on any international education program that meets their academic objectives. Scholarships range from $1,250 – $10,000 and can be applied for programs that run for at least 28 days. More on the FEA program

Freeman-Asia 

The Freeman-ASIA program is designed to support U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of U.S. citizens and permanent residents with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures. More on Freeman-Asia

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships 

Since 1990, the Blakemore Foundation, with the support of The Freeman Foundation, has awarded over $18 million in grants to college graduates, graduate students and working professionals for an academic year abroad in full-time intensive Asian language study. The fellowships cover tuition and a stipend for related educational expenses, basic living costs and transportation. More on the Blakemore Freeman scholarship

Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship Program

The U.S. Government awards FLAS grants to higher ed institutions, who then select modern language undergraduate and graduate students for academic-year or summer allocations. For consideration, students must submit an application through a grantee institution. More on the FLAS program

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

A program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Student Program offers recent college graduates, post-graduate scholars, and young professionals grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. More on the Fulbright program

Project Global Officer (Project GO) Scholarships

A Department of Defense initiative administered by the Institute of International Education, Project GO provides funding to ROTC students for critical language study both at home and overseas. More on the Project GO scholarships

The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the Fellowship provides funding for the final year of undergraduate study and first year of graduate study in a field related to the Foreign Service (including specialization in a language). Successful completion leads to employment by the Foreign Service. More on the Pickering program

Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Academic Scholarship

The Foundation awards several academic scholarships each year to undergraduate women studying a language other than English who have attained at least the level of Silver Award Girl Scout. The $1,500 award is renewable for four years of university language study. More on the Schillings scholarship

Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Academic Scholarship

The Foundation provides non-renewable awards of $1,000 to undergraduate Silver and Gold Award Girl Scouts to fund academic-year and summer study abroad experiences. More on the Schillings study abroad program

Fund for Education Abroad Scholarship

The Fund for Education Abroad provides financial support for U.S. undergraduates to study overseas, with a preference toward rigorous, immersive academic programs and underrepresented students. More on the Fund for Education Abroad scholarship

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant

Each year, the Society awards 75 study abroad grants of $1,000 to students on campuses with a Phi Kappa Phi chapter who have earned a GPA of at least 3.75 on a 4-point scale. More on the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad grant

Korea Foundation's Korean Language Training Fellowship

The Korea Foundation provides foreign scholars and graduate students of Korean studies and those working in Korea-related fields abroad with an opportunity to learn Korean systematically in a Korean language immersion program at Korean universities. More on the Korean Language Training Fellowship

Korean Government Scholarships 

The purpose of the Korean Government scholarships are to provide international students with opportunities to conduct advanced studies in undergraduate & graduate programs at higher educational institutions in the Republic of Korea in order to promote international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between countries. 170 persons are selected for the undergraduate course and 700 persons for the graduate course. More on the Korean Government scholarships

The Academy of Korean Studies support full tuition and stipends for excellent international graduate students studying in their institution in Korea. More on the AKS Scholarships
