CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR LATEST HVAC COURSE GRADUATES!
Collaborative HVAC Apprenticeship Program Gives Graduates Critical Skills to Meet the Changing HVAC Demands of the University and Hospital
In the spring of 2020, we initiated an apprenticeship program providing our Civil Service employees the chance to acquire the skills and expertise to best serve the changing Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems at the University and Hospital.
Today, we extend our congratulations to the first graduates of this important program, which is critical to the safety and well-being of our patients, students, residents, faculty and staff. Andrew Thomas Keppler, Hassan J. Bias, Christopher A. Zilli, John X Lopez, Daniel Barrett Byrnes, Christopher J. DeRosa, Joseph K. Lorio, and Michael Yee all started and completed the pilot program during the pandemic. They celebrated their graduation on January 13, 2022 as they received a well-deserved promotion to a Grade 12 in the Service and Repair Mechanic (HVAC) title series.
“These positions are absolutely critical in providing necessities like heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution to the entire University and Hospital community," noted Terence Harrigan, Associate Vice President for Campus Operations and Maintenance. "Through hard work and dedication, each of these graduates is now armed with an increased skill set to serve the changing needs and demands of the University and Hospital."
In addition to ensuring the comfort and safety of our Stony Brook community, the program shows our reinforced commitment to increasing the skill sets of our Stony Brook employees.
