SBU Transit

SBU Transit provides free transportation on Stony Brook campus and to some  shopping areas on weekends.

Biking

Stony Brook University offers bikes to students free of charge for up to 60 minutes. Free bike access will begin on the first day of class. More information can be found on the Wolf Ride Bike Share website.

Off Campus Transportation

Suffolk County Transportation

Suffolk County Transit provides connection to local off-campus destinations. The fare for students is $1.25 per ride with a valid SBU ID Card.

Route 51 stops on campus and connects to Smith Haven Mall, Port Jefferson, and the Ronkonkoma LIRR train station.

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)

The Long Island Railroad's (LIRR) Port Jefferson line goes from Penn Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. The LIRR station is at the north end of the campus; bus service to central campus is provided. Trains to and from Penn Station generally require transfers at Jamaica or Huntington. Hicksville is also a transfer point on some lines.

You can download MTA Train Time, the mobile ticketing app to purchase and use LIRR tickets directly on your smartphone. You can also purchase your LIRR ticket from one of the ticket machines at the train station.

Car Rental

Driver must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license and major credit card in the name of driver.
