NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program
Eligible undergraduate seniors, alumni applying to graduate school for the first time, and first-year first-time graduate students (Master's or doctoral) are encouraged to submit!
Funding for 3 years of graduate study in research-based master’s and doctoral programs (must produce a thesis document) in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Eligibility:
- Graduating seniors completing a Bachelor's in Fall 2026, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027; recent alumni planning to attend graduate school in Fall 2027; first-year graduate students going for their first graduate degree (Master's or doctorate) starting in Fall 2026
- Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
- U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident

Overview
A campus nomination is not required for this award, but prospective applicants should contact External Fellowships about SBU's NSF GRFP Application Accelerator. This applicant mentoring program runs prior to the October application deadlines.

NSF GRFP Application Accelerator Activities
Stony Brook offers an Application Accelerator program that helps participants develop a strong application for NSF GRFP. This accelerator is run via Brightspace and open to all SBU applicants eligible to apply for the October 2026 deadline.
