The Facilities Master Plan advances Stony Brook’s academic and research mission through a coordinated set of new facilities, targeted expansions, and strategic investments across campus. These efforts support emerging fields, expand research capacity, and strengthen connections across disciplines.
As the university continues to grow, the demand for academic and research space is projected to increase significantly. The plan responds by addressing existing space deficits and positioning the campus to support future enrollment, research activity, and program expansion. Key investments include:
- Development of new, state-of-the-art research facilities across key disciplines
- Expansion of engineering, science, and technology-focused academic space
- Creation of specialized centers supporting innovation in areas such as AI, biotechnology, and climate research

- Renovations to core science and engineering buildings, including Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering
