Overview
This state-of-the-art facility will expand Stony Brook’s leadership in biomedicine and biotechnology by accelerating translational research, strengthening the regional biomedical workforce, and elevating the University’s national research prominence. The proposed BioTech Multidisciplinary Research Building will foster collaboration among scientists, engineers, and clinicians while integrating laboratory-based, clinical, and population health research. The facility will support the Renaissance School of Medicine’s strategic plan to double research expenditures and further strengthen Stony Brook’s national standing.

Key Highlights

• New approximately 68,000-GSF, five-story research building connected to the Medical and Research Translation (MART) Building.
• Flexible laboratory environments supporting basic, translational, clinical, and computational research.
• Specialized research spaces, including biomedical laboratories, cell culture and procedure rooms, environmental and cold rooms, heavy equipment bays, fume hood alcoves, and glassware wash and autoclave facilities.
• Research programs focused on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM), advanced therapeutics and theranostics, healthy aging, neuroscience and pain, and cardiovascular and kidney disease.
• Faculty offices, researcher workspaces, conference rooms, and collaborative spaces.

Impact

The building will support more than 20 federally funded scientists, add 40 new NIH R01 grants, and create more than 30 new jobs, including positions for faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and support staff.

Its interdisciplinary focus will help drive the development of new treatments, expand training programs, and strengthen partnerships with agencies such as NIH, NSF, DOE, and DoD, ultimately improving health outcomes for patients at Stony Brook Medicine and across Long Island.
